Big Bertha is the popular, full-figured owner of the community's most successful whorehouse and moonshine racketeering enterprise. Some guys decide to rob Big Bertha’s stash of money, but the local cops just happen to coincidentally be "visiting" the joint. With her money missing, Big Bertha announces the closure of her whorehouse, but nobody in town will let that happen!

Screened on ITV, Saturday nights throughout the autumn and winter of 1978. A total of 12 episodes were broadcast between 7 October and 31 December 1978, with an additional highlights show and a further one off special on 4 April 1980. Despite a huge budget and big name guest stars it was poorly received and was broadly unsuccessful, with Forsyth's former big hit The Generation Game (hosted then by Larry Grayson) winning higher audience figures.

Bertha is a British stop motion-animated children's television series about a factory machine of that name, comprising 13 episodes that aired from 1985 to 1986. Other major characters in the series were Mr Willmake, Mr Sprott and Tracy. All the characters were designed by Ivor Wood, and the series was produced by his company, Woodland Animations. It was broadcast on BBC Television.A series of six storybooks based on Bertha was published by André Deutsch at the same time as the series was broadcast. They were adapted by Eric Charles and illustrated by Steve Augarde, who was also responsible for the artwork and music in the children's series Bump.
